From 24 to 30 July, your favorite local attractions in Burscough are joining together to host a walking and cycling event, offering free guided walks and cycling tours between WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, LWT Mere Sands Wood, Burscough Village, The Ship Inn and Homestead farm Tea Room, providing a great day out for everyone in Southport, Burscough, Wigan, Bolton and Ormskirk.

July is a great time to get outdoors and watch wildlife, especially at the start of the summer holidays. It is the best time to see butterflies, bubble bees, damselflies, wild flowers and the newly hatched fledglings such as tree sparrows and blackbirds. WWT Martin Mere offers fantastic opportunities to get up close to these species to take photographs or simply enjoy being immersed in nature.

If you’re travelling from Southport:
Get the train from Southport station to Burscough Bridge Interchange and enjoy a great day out. The train runs at 10.24am, 10.55am, 11.24am, 12 noon, 12.24pm, 12.54pm, 1.24pm & 2pm.
If you’re travelling from Wigan:
Get the train from either Wigan Wallgate (03 & 24 minutes past the hour) or Wigan North Western (18 & 57 minutes past the hour) and enjoy a great day out
If you’re travelling from Bolton:
Get the train from Bolton station to Burscough Bridge Interchange at 45 & 56 minutes past the hour and enjoy a great day out
If you’re travelling from Ormskirk:
Get the 3A bus from Ormskirk Bus Station to Burscough Bridge Interchange at 18 minutes past the hour and enjoy a great day out
WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.
